Succesfull upgrade for Nødnett, the Norwegian TETRA network
The upgrade gives Nødnett a better power supply, both for end users and those who will operate the system. The network is now ready for national development and greater capacity and better security than before.
The Nødnett TETRA network in Norway, supporting the Norwegian emergency was successfully upgraded to the the latest version on Tuesday the 27th August.
With this new upgrade Nødnett will have a more robust network providing better online functionality. Now Nødnett belongs to the most modern TETRA networks in Europe, said Director of DNK Tor Helge Lyngstøl the meeting.
The upgrade gives Nødnett a better power supply, both for end users and those who will operate the system. The network is now ready for national development and greater capacity and better security than before. Technically, this means that Nødnett also get increased redundancy through a further duplication of key components. Safety is increased by the fact that these are in different geographical locations.
The latest version also provides opportunities to connect with other Nødnett TETRA networks, and in the course of the project, the emergency services in Norway could communicate with users in the Swedish radio network RAKEL.
- Data Services in Nødnett will be extended to support TEDS (higher data rates), and testing will take place during the year. Furthermore Nødnett now prepared for a possible pairing with LTE. Among other features the network will also provide improved helicopter coverage because of the greater range of bases.
