Highways Agency extends contract with Airwave
The Highways Agency has signed a 36-month extension on its existing Airwave contract. This ensures that it is able to continue secure communications with its colleagues using Airwave’s Emergency Services Network (ESN).
The Highways Agency will also be able to interoperate with all the emergency services in Great Britain.
The £8.1m contract was officially signed in November and came into immediate effect. The Highways Agency has used Airwave’s ESN since 2005 to manage traffic and tackle congestion. In order to communicate with control rooms and other agencies and partners, especially during a crisis, the Agency needs resilient systems in place.
Every Highways Agency patrol vehicle is equipped with an Airwave radio programmed with the shared channels (talk groups) to monitor incidents as they happen. This means that when officers arrive at an incident they are already fully briefed.
