Sepura’s flagship series of hand-portable radios – has been approved for use on Airwave, the UK emergency services network.

Sepura has a long history of providing mission critical radios to UK public safety customers; the STP, SRH and SRC radios have ensured the company’s market-leading status in the supply of hand-portables to UK Police Forces since 2002.

“The SC20 radios have been designed to provide a smarter user experience,” said Mark Barnby, Sepura’s Head of Product Management for Devices.

“Class 3 high-power RF transmission, coupled with exceptional receive sensitivity, gives the SC20 series extended operational range, stretching coverage into areas and buildings where it was not possible before.”

“The high-speed second data-bearer option places the SC20 in a unique position, creating the potential to offer capabilities never before associated with a TETRA device, including over-the-air programming via Wi-Fi, control of a body-worn camera, or tethering to a smartphone or tablet device by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This is coupled with an extended applications capability that puts real back office intelligence into the hands of the Airwave user.”

Submersible, waterproof, salt-resistant and dustproof, the SC20 series also boasts market-leading IP66, IP67 and IP68 environmental protection ratings and an easy-clean design, allowing it to be rinsed in running water. Unique water-porting technology, combined with 2W audio output ensures clarity of communications in harsh conditions.

“We are delighted that these revolutionary radios are now available to the UK’s public safety users,” said Gary Maughan, Sepura’s Regional Director UK&I.

“The ability to utilise narrowband data applications; extended coverage; superior audio and exceptional toughness of the SC20 series will drive efficiency and enhance the experience and evolving communications requirements of the UK’s public safety users during the transition to ESN.”
