Norwegian Emergency Services Network, Nødnett, Moves to DSB Organisation
Norway’s Directorate for Emergency Communication (DNK), operator of the Nødnett nationwide digital radio TETRA network for emergency and public safety services, wil be moved to the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB).
In a publication on the website, DNK communicates that according to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the aim of the move is to align public safety communications more closely with other public safety areas. DNK will be closed down as a separate directorate.
DNK’s director, Tor Helge Lyngstøl, will become part of DSB’s management team and says: “DSB has a broad coordination responsibility within public safety and civil protection, and this is a good basis for the further development of Nødnett.” He continues: “I look forward to contribute to the realisation of critical communication as an integral part of the Norwegian civil protection work.”
Justice and Emergency Minister Anders Anundsen said in a press release that the transfer of Nødnett into DSB will facilitate a more strategic approach to emergency and public safety communications and ICT development in the field of civil protection.
