Simoco to Focus on DMR Telemetry Solution for Utilities Sector at UTC
Simoco Group will be demonstrating its new DMR telemetry solution for utilities sector companies at UTC telecom & technology 2016 in Denver, Colorado on May 3-6, 2016.
Simoco Pulse is a portfolio of products that enables organizations, including utilities and public service operators, to manage and control smart grids and networks across vast operational areas.
UTC will see IT & telecoms professionals from across the world gather to demonstrate and discuss the latest innovation in water, electric, and gas utilities technologies. One of the main themes of this year’s event is ‘Pioneering the Future Utility’, with a focus on the emergence of smart grid networks.
Simoco Pulse ensures companies have a reliable way of transmitting telemetry data in order to successfully monitor their increasingly diverse and complex infrastructure. Pulse allows SCADA telemetry applications to be quickly and cost effectively deployed over Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) Tier III trunked networks, delivering reliable communications at a time when this data is becoming an increasingly important part of the mission-critical mix.
The solution, which uses a fully integrated IP network to connect information sent from data modems or RTUs (Remote Telemetry Units) to SCADA masters, is designed to be effective in remote areas where cellular coverage is intermittent and installing wired networks has significant cost implications.
UTC delegates will be presented with the results of an initial roll-out of the Pulse solution with UK-based utilities provider Western Power Distribution (WPD), where the technology has already resulted in a reduction in outage times and associated costs. There will also be demonstrations of Simoco’s latest developments in DMR voice communications and P25 radio.
This includes a new range of portable and mobile DMR devices, as well as base stations, which will offer users functionality that includes full duplex audio, multiple operating modes, a large high-definition screen and an application programming interface capable of supporting third party applications.
Simoco Group CEO Mike Norfield said: "There are a whole host of fascinating technologies which are changing the face of the utilities sector at present. Yet the move to the smart grid of the future is something that poses challenges too, particularly when it comes to ensuring reliable, mission critical communications.
"Simoco Pulse delivers a strong proposition to customers looking to set up communications infrastructure to support data transmission and control in remote, and often vast, operational areas These new products work together to deliver resilient and cost-effective radio communications that are particularly suited to the electricity, water and gas sectors and will help companies ensure they have insight and control over smart grid functionality in the future."
"Our latest developments in mobile and portable radio offer a step up in functionality while our P25 solutions continue to remain popular with customers as a result of their reliability and interoperability."
