Motorola Solutions CTO: Police Forces Have to Adapt New Technology Fast

Paul Steinberg, Technology Director of Motorola Solutions was recently in Brazil to present the Command and Virtual Control Center, which, according to the vision of the company, will transform critical communications. In a short interview, Steinberg answered 3 questions.

Over and over again, Steinberg explains that technology is fundamental in the fight against crime. He also states that security forces must adapt technology as fast as possible in order not to lose ground against crime, which always seeks to be one step further. 

In an interview, Paul Steinberg answered 3 simple and straight forward questions

1. What is the importance of technology to secure citizens?

"Resources are scarce. Then, the more efficient, effective and secure they are for the police organisation, the more security they will deliver" to citizens. Technology gives the police access to the digital world around us. We are citizens who generate a lot of data. Cities are getting smarter. From there there is an awareness and a situational intelligence that allows to obtain information instantaneously and in real time to be able to solve risky situations."

2. "Are the police forces receptive to technology?" Or is there resistance?

"It's a matter of culture all over the world. We find a good reception when they can use the new technology instantly with quick results and benefits."

Steinberg was accompanied by Motorola Solutions Channel Director for South America, Alberto Iglesias Paiz, who explained: "It is a matter of contagion. It took a while for the police to adapt that they could communicate without the need to carry the radio transmitter in the hand. Now it seems very easy for them to speak at the push of a button knowing that they leave the radio on the belt or in their pocket."

3. What will happen to the security forces that do not adapt new technologies? Will they lose the battle against crime?

"Yes. In fact, technology evolves and expectations too. Technology also helps the bad guys. Police forces then have to adapt to technology to be more efficient and effective than criminals. Undoubtedly there will be new challenges on a constant basis."

In addition to presenting the virtual command and control center in Buenos Aires, during his visit to Argentina, Steinberg spoke about the latest trends in communication and the current need for technological synergy that customers at all levels of management are facing to complement instant communications.
