American Tower has deployed a private 5G standalone network, enabling edge cloud applications at Miracle Mile Shops, a top retail and entertainment destination in Las Vegas. Miracle Mile Shops is an ideal venue to trial and showcase innovative 5G use cases unique to the in-building environment and retail space.

AT joined forces with an ecosystem of technology partners to launch this cutting-edge network and support digital transformation at the property.

“We are thrilled to leverage our existing infrastructure at Miracle Mile Shops, working with new ecosystem partners, to unlock incremental value using private networks, ”

said Ed Knapp, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at American Tower.

“This private network will work in tandem with the existing neutral-host cellular Distributed Antennas System (DAS) network, enabling diverse edge applications, with cloud-native capabilities, and new private use cases. We hope the learnings from this pilot will help us refine our long-term technology and commercial strategy.”

The strategic collaboration will support the accelerated development of latency-sensitive retail services and applications over private networks—from point-of-sale systems to venue security, energy efficiency and more—which rely on bringing traditional cloud infrastructure, applications, and tools closer to the edge. The new applications will not only create value for Miracle Mile Shops and their operations, tenants and visitors but also advance their digitalization journey and ability to stay ahead of industry trends.

These private network applications are scalable across many different public venue sectors.
American Tower’s robust national DAS presence in public venues positions the company to
readily help owners enable these value-generating applications.
