BDBOS Builds a Critical Communications Development & Research Environment with TETRA, LTE and 5G
With the KoPa_45 project, which is funded by the federal government's Corona stimulus package, BDBOS is promoting innovation for BOS broadband digital radio.
As part of its KoPa_45 funding program, BDBOS (The Federal Agency for Public Safety Digital Radio in Germany) is building a development and research environment with TETRA, LTE and 5G technology. This is intended to enable application development, research-based development, trial and testing of future BOS broadband services. The tender for the broadband development environment has now been published.
With the KoPa_45 project, which is funded by the federal government's Corona stimulus package, BDBOS is promoting innovation for BOS broadband digital radio. In this way, on the one hand, the advantages of the mobile radio standards 5G and, in the future, 6G should be made usable for mission-critical communication networks. On the other hand, the possible uses of edge and cloud technologies in mission-critical areas are to be researched. The funding program is expected to start in the first quarter of 2023 and will run until the end of 2024.
As a basis for the planned construction of a broadband development environment, BDBOS is procuring a 5G/LTE campus network. This is set up in Berlin on the BDBOS' own test platform. In this way, participants in the KoPa_45 funding program can test applications in the context of joint use of TETRA and 5G/LTE.
At the same time, a second campus network is being procured in a portable installation that can be used temporarily at different locations for test purposes. In this way, special test scenarios can be tested on site by the users of the BOS network.
The tender for the delivery, installation and operation of the campus networks has been published since November 26, 2022. Offers can be submitted until January 16, 2022 via the Procurement Office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community.
