No problems on Sepura radios found in Baden Wurttemberg and Bavaria

At the end of October this year, in Hamburg 28 TETRA radios failed to operate. The cause of the problem was a malfunctioning handset based console. At too high temperature the HBC 'melts'.

Sepura indicates that the problem lies not with the radios, but the HBC from their supplier. Sepura is currently actively looking with the Hamburg police for causes and solutions.

Earlier, the German publication 'Bild' reported that Sepura radios would not work. From Bild: "Approximately 53 million euros has been invested  by the city of Hamburg for the local police. The testing phase began in 2006 and only now is is announced that the devices have some sort of sun allergy. "According to the newspaper 'Die Welt' the devices of Sepura loose power when they get too hot because they are put behind the window in the sun.

Kasper Barfoed, Sepura's Regional Director Northern Europe, commented: "In Hamburg, there is a problem reported with the handset that can be connected to a Sepura Mobile radio. If the console is exposed to high temperatures by direct sunlight in a car, then the handset switches off. The problem is not with the Sepura radios, but the handset-based console that is installed in smaller vehicles. In those vehicles, there is less space for installation." He indicates that the console is used only in Germany. On a total of 32000 radios, 28 radios did fail. Barfoed mentioned also that "Outside of Hamburg, the console is also installed in Baden Wurttemberg and Bavaria and here we found no problems. Since the problem is reported we have done exhaustive testing and problem could not reproduced."

Sepura is now working with the authorities in Hamburg to take measures in order to prevent further problems.
