Funk-Electronic Piciorgros, a Germany based TETRA core manufacturer is presenting their latest innovation at the TETRA World Congress this year.
Piciorgros will be performing a live demo throughout the three days at the TWC and they will show the connection of a TETRA network in Dubai and a TETRA infrastructure in Athens, with only a small time delay and without any loss of quality..
Piciorgros has already won second place at the TETRA Awards this year in March for their DVI-100 in the category “Best TETRA Innovation”. This device is a TETRA modem that can connect different infrastructures to one another regardless of manufacturer, frequency or even location in an easy and effective way. The device is attached to a TETRA infrastructure the same way as a normal hand portable and can be a member of up to 25 different groups and it is connected to the infrastructure without any loss of the excellent and clear TETRA voice quality, because the voice is never turned into an analog signal, but stays digital all the time.
The latest innovation Piciorgros has created with their DVI-100 is to connect two different TETRA infrastructures to one another by using a Thuraya satellite link. These infrastructures can be far away from one another and - again, they can be of different brand and even frequency. The DVI-100 is connected to a router in one network and with the help of an uplink, it is sent to the other infrastructure that receives the information through the Thuraya transceiver and feeds it to the router that will send it to the DVI-100 and vice versa.
The set-up displayed in the picture above is a special scenario, where the DVI-100 in one infrastructure is connected to a satellite dish that sends TETRA voice information through a satellite to an area in no close proximity to a TETRA network. In this situation the DVI-100 functions as a MicroSpot in DMO mode, feeding the information to terminals close by. Marco Jakobs, CTO at Funk Electronic Piciorgros explains: “We believe that there is a great need for a device like the DVI-100. TETRA white spots or even areas, where there is no infrastructure at all - let’s say, a vessel in the middle of the ocean - can be using TETRA now and communicate to the harbor authorities. This is a great opportunity for the TETRA industry.” Piciorgros will be performing a live demo throughout the three days at the TWC and they will show the connection of a TETRA network in Dubai and a TETRA infrastructure in Athens, showing that it is possible to communicate with only a small time delay and without any loss of quality in the speech.
