Hungarian Emergency Services Network upgraded with 23 TETRA Base Stations

In the frame of the major project „Development of the Unified Digital Radio Telecommunications System” Pro-M Zrt. has upgraded the closed circuit radio telecommunications network used by the emergency bodies.

With the twenty three newly implemented base stations put into operation recently the coverage and capacity of the EDR network was increased to comply with the requirements of the users.

The national EDR network in Hungary has been supplied by four switches (in Budapest, Kecskemét, Szolnok and Székesfehérvár), two of which are new generation, high capacity TETRA switches operating in Szolnok and Székesfehérvár since summer 2014. The limited capacities of the former switches hampered installation of new base stations but, thanks to the two new switches installed in Szolnok and Székesfehérvár, 23 new base stations were put into operation by observing the technical and operational requirements.

The EDR network provides for a proportionate geographical distribution of servicing the communications facilities and workstations of emergency bodies, ensures the necessary redundancies prescribed by the disaster recovery plans and grants high level reliability of the system.

With the Unified Digital Radio Communication System (EDR), project network capacities and coverage were extended especially along the Schengen border line sections. Along with the development disaster tolerance of the network was increased and an appropriate infrastructure developed to allow servicing of as many as 100 thousand users. In addition to the construction of new base stations, 200 thousand dispatcher workstations were replaced in the project for computer-based ones which support the activity management tasks at the control and command centre of the Police. Development of the central activity controlling documentation system also makes part of the project.
