TTG CEO, Mike Norfield's view on the latest news from the construction sector and what it means for critical comms

According to the CEO, the construction industry has faced a turbulent time as a result of the recession, but this week the Construction’s Products Association published its latest forecasts on output – and it’s good news.

Since the first quarter of 2013, construction output has made a considerable turn for the better and it is the deployment of new infrastructure that has contributed to the industry’s growth in the second half of last year.

This will continue to help the recovery over the next four years, with the association anticipating output in infrastructure to increase by 39.7% by 2017. Much of this will be down to the roads and energy sub-sectors, and in my opinion technology firms will have a major part to play in ensuring the forecasts are realised.

Construction sites are demanding environments. Dust, noise, changing landscapes and multiple user groups are challenges that must be met to ensure safe and effective communications. Operators in this sector require flexible and reliable systems and technology infrastructure that provide coverage across dynamic and complex sites

Businesses in this sector will need to rely on communications experts to deliver effective technologies and infrastructures that will help keep the operations on their sites safe and running to the highest standards.

As well as supporting the construction industry’s need for communications technologies, TTG is involved in the systems design, commissioning and operation of the technology infrastructure that will be required by the consumers and businesses using new buildings and infrastructure.

The latest forecasts illustrate that construction should be one of the sectors at the forefront of a healthier UK economy and, with a well-thought out collaborative approach, I believe it can continue to flourish.
