Simoco Launches Industry’s First Full Duplex Calling for DMR Portable Radios
Simoco Group, the global designer and manufacturer of radio hardware and systems, has announced an upgrade of its DMR offer which includes the capability for full duplex calling on its range of DMR portables.
The release also includes new features and functionality that will enhance roaming on Simoco’s Xtend network and enable SELCALL operation for Simoco Xd SDP600 and SDM600 terminals. Simoco’s Head of Product Strategy, Andy Grimmett is pleased with the reaction from the company’s channel partners and customers, stating: “We invest in research and engineering so that we can bring useful, effective and up-to-date features to the end users of our systems. We’ve already seen high demand for our full duplex functionality which makes communications between radio and telephone users much easier. This is an industry first with our portable radios being the only ones currently available to the market with full duplex capability.”
Full duplex telephony was available ahead of the full launch, featuring in recent installations such as Bahrain Airport’s new Tier III DMR system which went live last month
Other aspects of the upgrade include the introduction of terminal voting heartbeats to enhance the performance of Simoco Xd terminals operating on the Xtend network. Tier II Terminal Voting Heartbeats works through using background transmissions to select the best radio site so that communications are more effective when users are roaming across large areas.
The new SELCALL Operation for Simoco Xd SDP600 and SDM600 terminal ranges, means that these products have greater flexibility when operating in analogue mode. This enables users to upgrade their Simoco terminals while still using an analogue system with the assurance of a straightforward future migration to an all-digital radio system.
Enhanced General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) features bring external audio functionality and additional accessory options to Simoco’s SDM600 range of mobile terminals and features audio input and output on facilities connectors and support for hands-free microphone, desk microphone and remote PTT switch (SDM630 only).
DTMF Encode in analogue mode enables over the air signaling and control using a Simoco Xd terminal radio.
Idle screen customisation has also been enabled on SDP660 portable and SDM630 mobile radios. This means that users can view additional information such as system time and terminal ID on the radio’s display. Grimmett added, “This release demonstrates an end-to-end upgrade of the Simoco Xd system, and brings additional end user features as well as system based enhancements.”
