TCCA Launches International Critical Control Rooms Alliance

Source: MCCResources

The International Critical Control Rooms Alliance (ICCRA), still an independent working group of the TCCA, bringing together critical control room professionals in order to help deliver excellent mission critical services.

Back in 2014 the TETRA & Critical Communications Association (TCCA) established the Critical Control Room Working Group. However, as with the implementation of new (broadband) technologies integrated into the control room and the intense complexity of the entire control room environment. TCCA has changed this working group into International Critical Control Rooms Alliance (ICCRA). In this way the TCCA will address the need for more transparency of control room operations and technology but also personnel and environment issues such as ergonomics, staff retention and control room construction.

The International Critical Control Rooms Alliance (ICCRA), still an independent working group of the TCCA, bringing together critical control room professionals in order to help deliver excellent mission critical services. Membership is open to individuals and organisations representing users and the commercial sector.

The great news is that ICCRA will have a positive impact on the future of critical control rooms across sectors for a number of reasons:

  • The creation of an ICCRA online hub where members will be able to join in discussions, seek and give advice, contribute content, and share experiences.
  • A programme of on-line events free of charge to members.
  • The annual International Critical Control Room Congress, where members can expect to share in a growing and ambitious agenda focussed solely on the issues affecting critical control rooms.
  • A global annual survey leading to insights across a broad range of critical control room topics and a growing appreciation of the state of our industry.
  • Membership of ICCRA’s Special Interest Groups on Technology, People, Environment and Ergonomics, and Operations and Performance.

The International Critical Control Rooms Alliance will build on this initial capability over time through three funding streams:

  • Commercial sponsorship
  • Fees for non-members to join in our events (e.g. webinars)
  • A membership fee structure for critical control rooms users and the commercial organisations supporting them

ICCRA is the only organisation in the world which brings together the managers, directors, and operators of critical control rooms of all varieties globally, and the commercial organisations which support them, delving into the range of subjects which are core to effective operation of control rooms delivering mission critical services – not just technology, but the people, working environment, and operations.

Four special interest groups (SIGs) will target area's of; operations, technology, environment & ergonomics, and people & performance, and then establish agendas in their respective areas.

Chairman of the ICCRA, is Peter Prater, who has chaired the TCCA Control Room Group for several years now. Prater said: "Growing our membership and support will be key to delivering our ambitious programme for our industry. Details of membership will be released shortly. The group will conduct its first webinars in July and August, followed by a survey in September and a conference in Geneva, Switzerland that will take place in early December."

During the conference, a visit to the control room of CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research will be part of the program.

More information in ICCRA such as details on membership, attending the 2017 Congress, webinars and events, and sponsorship opportunities will be published shortly.
