KPN First in Europe to offer a Nationwide PTT service via 4G
KPN said it will be Europe's first operator to offer a nationwide PTT service, with quality of service. In combination with the Priority Voice service, the end user will get priority on the mobile network.
The company said that it will integrate Push-To-Talk communications into its 4G mobile network. Many sectors use port services, including public transport, industry, and police and security services. With radio phones, people can communicate quickly during events where coordination of a team of employees is necessary. Push-to-Talk was introduced a few years ago as a special communication service for emergency services.
In the second half of 2018, the service will be integrated into the national mobile network. The costs for individual networks will go; there will be only a monthly subscription for connection and extra functionalities.
KPN said it will be the first provider in Europe to offer a nationwide Push-To-Talk service, with quality of service. In combination with the Priority Voice service, the Push-To-Talk user will get priority on the mobile network. KPN Push-To-Talk is part of the development to 5G. It is one of the upgrades that will be implemented in order to launch services not quite yet 5G but based on parts of the roadmap.
From April this year, the Push-To-Talk service will also provide additional functionalities. For example, it will be able to send messages via an app to configured groups or contacts, with photo and video files. Furthermore geographical information will also be provided via the app.
