FRMCS Provider Kontron Expands Presence in Europe

Curated by: Gert Jan Wolf - Editor-in Chief for The Critical Communications Review

Internet Service Providers across Europe can now more easily access and deploy the latest broadband access equipment and 5G mobile private networks to offer high-performance connectivity to various industries thanks to the expansion of Kontron, d. o. o.’s (Slovenia’s Kontron) ICT products in the region.

This follows the company’s latest partnership with Euroroute, a supplier of network equipment, that is providing service providers with a more streamlined and faster deployment process of Slovenia’s Kontron’s Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) in the UK and Ireland. Slovenia’s Kontron has also expanded its presence in the US with the deployment of fibre-access solutions to local ISPs, and in Germany with the deployment of an industrial 5G Campus Network at Rosenheim University, enhancing learning for students with seamless mobility and ensured security.

The latest projects follow the recent news that the IT segment of Slovenia’s Kontron has been separated from its overall offering. As part of the company restructure, alongside Slovenia’s Kontron, Kontron SI (Systems Integration), d.o.o. has been established. Slovenia’s Kontron’s more focused offering includes software-defined access, XGS-PON fibre, mission-critical communications and system integration of transport solutions. A greater focus on the latter enables the company to become part of an ecosystem, established within the Kontron AG Group for Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) solutions, which are set to accelerate digital transformation for railways.

Slovenia’s Kontron also develops and manufactures high-quality CPE and Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) in its own manufacturing and production facilities. Kontron SI, d.o.o. will be responsible for delivering advanced business and IT solutions mainly in the Slovenian market. Slovenia’s Kontron was previously known as S&T Iskratel, which was born when S&T Slovenija and Iskratel previous merged in September 2022.

Robert Kuzmič, Managing Director at Slovenia’s Kontron

We are delighted to partner with Euroroute as we continue in our efforts to help accelerate and enhance the operational efficiency of ISP deployments that deliver greater connectivity for homes and businesses. Alongside this, our deployment of 5G connectivity at Rosenheim University underscores the diverse portfolio of solutions we can deliver. The latest partnerships strengthen our foothold in the UK and German markets respectively.”
