EADS Defence & Security has launched the new THR9 Ex radio. The THR9 Ex TETRA radio combines certification for operation in explosion-prone areas with user friendliness, a robust design and advanced features to enhance user safety.
With IP65 classification and ATEX/IEC certification both for gas and dust, the THR9 Ex has the best protection against physical and environmental exposure, providing safe and reliable communication in circumstances when intrinsically safe products are mandatory. It is suitable for use in explosion-prone areas and in places where inflammable substances are produced, processed, transported or stored: oil and gas platforms, petrochemical and steel industries, refineries, rigs and harbours. The THR9 Ex also meets the requirements of fire brigades for ATEX/IEC certified equipment when working in hazardous circumstances.
The THR9 Ex has the largest display on the market, providing valuable information for users on the changing field situations. For example, a red signal warns the user if the 2000 mAh radio battery is running empty or the TETRA network coverage is diminishing. The dedicated information field on top of the display shows the selected talk group in all situations, and the distinctive colourings make it easy to recognise whether the radio is operating in trunked or direct mode.
The new Lifeguard feature recognises if the radio stops moving, or if it remains horizontal for a given period which might mean that the user is injured or has fallen. In this case the radio triggers an automatic alarm and sends its coordinates to a predefined destination.
