Motorola Solutions Named Amongst Greenest Companies in North America
Motorola Solutions SBTI Commitment is to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 95% by 2031.
According to experts, the climate crisis is one of the greatest hazards of our time. People are increasingly impacted by extreme weather events. Scientists predict that degraded ecosystems will result in an alarming rate of extinction. And issues such as deforestation and water shortage are becoming increasingly urgent.
The obstacles are immense and intricate. But there are numerous reasons for optimism. This year, U.S. publication Newsweek debuted 'Better Planet', a section that highlights innovators and innovations that make the world healthier and safer.
As part of this section, Newsweek announced their first ranking of America's Greenest Companies (published in partnership with market data research firm Plant-A Insights and GIST Impact, a leader in impact data and analytics), which captures a snapshot in time of where the leading companies are and establishes a baseline for future rankings. These businesses have committed to being responsible environmental stewards, striving to preserve the planet and its resources for future generations.
There are obstacles to completing this ranking. Many of the available data are self-reported, so there may be omissions or errors. In order to prevent "greenwashing" through narrow criteria, businesses were evaluated based on four broad criteria: greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, waste generation, and commitment and disclosures. It is essential to recognize that organizations and industries have inherently distinct environmental impacts; the rankings should be viewed in context. The efficacy of businesses was evaluated relative to their respective industries.
SBTI Commitment Motorola Solutions
In this new list of companies, Motorola Solutions, with a Five star ranking, was ranked amongst the top Greenest Companies in America. The company is also the oldest technology manufacturing company in this list with a five star ranking.
Although Motorola Solutions was not listed with a so called SBTI commitment (The Science Based Targets initiative which is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science), the company in their communications on the environmental section on their website states that the company sets challenging goals for energy use, emissions, recycling and waste reduction to minimize thier environmental footprint.
For example, back in 2021, Motorola Solutions already set a new greenhouse gas goal in alignment with Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) methodology to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 95% by 2031.
