Metro Nashville Police Picks Motorola Solutions for Officers' Body Camera Upgrade
One of the important features of the new body camera is the capability for officers to upload footage from their cars, thus saving time and resources.
Body-worn cameras utilized by police officers have become a vital tool for investigating shootings, capturing wanted suspects, and responding to mass shootings.
To meet the need for an upgrade, the Metro Police Department decided to invest in state-of-the-art devices from Motorola Solutions that are not only better in terms of battery life but also have more features. One of these features is the capability for officers to upload footage from their cars, thus saving time and resources.
Officer Eric Cunningham commented on this, saying:
“Now we can do it from the cars so I want to make sure I can do that. Definitely it saves some time and gas, staying out of traffic if I don’t have to be in traffic."
Captain Blaine Whited also brought attention to the old process of officers returning to the precinct for uploading. He stated:
“All that time being spent sitting in traffic waiting for upload, that's time the officer could be in the community going out keeping everybody safe, which is what our expectations and what the community expectations are."
Not just time, but even money is saved due to the improved body cameras. Whited highlighted the importance of officers actively present in the community rather than being occupied with administrative tasks. The department is committed to providing their officers with the best possible equipment, knowing the significant role video evidence plays in law enforcement.
