Digital to Surpass Analog Products in 8 – 15 Years, Says U.K. Group
The estimate was made at Business Radio 10
A U.K. group predicted that digital two-way radio products will surpass analog products within eight to 15 years. The estimate was made at Business Radio 10 (BR10), an event for the business radio community in the United Kingdom hosted by the Federation of Communication Services (FCS).
The event focused on where the sector is going and how available spectrum can match the growth in demand. “FCS research has shown that business radio equipment sales are growing 6 percent to 10 percent year on year, users are adapting to digital services, and before long we will be seeking new spectrum to satisfy demand,” said Roy Pierce, chairman of BR10. “Industry predicts that digital products will supersede analog in 8 - 15 years.”
Earlier this year, FCS said U.K. telecom regulator Ofcom should allocate more spectrum to two-way radio. “To Ofcom we say, in developing your policy, take account of the wide range of user demands for new digital as well as ongoing analog systems. Consider the societal value that business radio brings to the economy,” Pierce said
