Successful integration of Rohill TetraNode with Inmarsat mobile broadband
Offering unique benefits for fast deployment TETRA networks
Rohill has successfully completed the first series of tests for integrating its TETRA solution with Inmarsat’s mobile broadband service, BGAN. Conducted with the Inmarsat technical team, and using BGAN terminals from Thrane & Thrane, this validation step provides the proof that TetraNode fast deployable systems can be reliably linked to telephony and dispatch operations around the world, even beyond the reach of terrestrial communications networks.
Inmarsat offers the most comprehensive range of global mobile satellite services for use on land, at sea and in the air. The Inmarsat voice and data services are accessible by a range of portable, fixed or vehicular Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite terminals. Cost-effective portable terminals can be setup within five minutes with no technical expertise needed. The vehicular BGAN terminals can be mounted on trucks or vehicles to provide continuous communications on-the-move. A maritime variant of BGAN, FleetBroadband, is available as well.
The Inmarsat BGAN service supports simultaneous voice and broadband data, providing excellent integration opportunities with Rohill’s TetraNode fast deployable TETRA solution. In addition to individual duplex and group calls by means of the standard Inmarsat voice services, it is possible also to provide remote voice and data dispatch through the broadband IP connection, which delivers up to 492kbps. Interconnection through the On-Demand Intelligent Network Interface (ODINI) adds the benefit of low-latency dispatch operations with immediate PTT response, even over high-?latency satellite links.
The Inmarsat enabled services and products from Rohill are targeted at a number of applications requiring reliable and secure communications in remote locations. This includes defense, foreign and intelligence services, VIP protection, oil & gas exploration, mining and disaster recovery. The Rohill TETRA solutions are available through the worldwide network of Rohill partners, with support from Inmarsat’s global distribution channel..
Dave Robertson, Business Development Manager for Inmarsat Government Global, said, “Our cooperation with Rohill has created solutions that offer secure, reliable and efficient communications in remote areas, and which go far beyond the current satellite interconnected DECT and GSM-based solutions currently available”.
Rohill and Inmarsat were jointly showing their solutions on the TETRA World Congress 2012, held from May 15 to 17 in Dubai.
