Beijing Just Top Network Communications Company Limited has awarded a new contract to Airbus Defence and Space covering the support and maintenance of the Beijing Government Shared Tetra Network, which has been in operation since 2003.

This three-year contract includes services such as on-site and emergency support, software maintenance, hardware repair and a help desk.

“This new contract with our long-term customer in China is the result of a long-standing relationship built on trust and good cooperation in providing the country’s users with uninterrupted network performance and quality service since the network was put in place. And it also illustrates that, in the eyes of our customers, Tetra remains an essential asset for mission-critical voice communications,” said Nicole Lecca, Head of Secure Land Communications at Airbus Defence and Space. “Moreover, with our efforts to develop Tetra we make sure that it will be an integral part of our solutions portfolio for secure communications in the decades to come.”

The Beijing Government Shared Tetra Network, also known as the “Beijing Just Top Tetra Network”, is the largest digital trunked network in Asia and the biggest city-wide Tetra network in the world. It has been expanded five times and now accommodates up to 110,000 users. It covers the Beijing city area, all venues, metro lines and counties, the main trunk roads and important buildings. Users of the shared network come from different government agencies, including municipal committees and government/public security bureaus such as police, fire and ambulance services, communication and water conservancy departments, and urban management organisations.

Since being set up in 2003, the network has provided communications and services for numerous large events, including the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, the celebrations of the 60th National Day in 2009, the APEC CEO Summit in 2014 and important annual national political meetings and visits of international officials or high-ranking persons.
