City of Port Elizabeth, South Africa implements TETRA Network
Last week a new TETRA Digital Radio Communication System and a new state-of-the-art 10111 Command Centre were launched in "The Windy City" Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The new system will assist the local police to respond efficiently, effectively and timeously to the needs of community members in distress as well as police criminal activity in the entire metropolitan area, the Police Ministry says.
The opening of the emergency center was part of the annual celebration of the National Police Day that was held in the Nelson Mandela Bay football stadium.
After the province of Gauteng, the The Eastern Cape is the second province to implement a TETRA Communications system.
Police Minister Minister Nathi Nhleko stated that while 2016 marks 21 years of committed policing in South Africa it also means that the South African Police Service (SAPS) must keep up with the times.
“The nature of crime and the growing technological competence being displayed by criminals have made it necessary for the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies of government to deploy robust and secure digital technology in all our daily operations as well as our facilities.
