Nødnett Recognises Innovative and Progressive use of TETRA Network
Sogn Fire and Emergency workers made it possible to expand Nødnetts coverage locally so that the crew had the opportunity to communicate with each other in the entire field of action.
In April 2017 several people were injured after a fire truck took fire in the 6.4 kilometer long Fjærland tunnel in Sogn og Fjordane, a county in the western part of Norway. At that time, the tunnel did not have Nødnett coverage, but the crews of then Sogn Fire and Emergency were able to quickly set up a fire truck with radio terminal in a gateway mode.
They made it possible to expand Nødnetts coverage locally so that the crew had the opportunity to communicate with each other in the entire field of action.
In the evaluation, this action is recognised as an important reason for a successful intervention.
"There were many involved in the event that day and everyone did an excellent job but we want to praise Sogn's fire and rescue because of their Nødnett expertise for use of Nødnett, said DSC director Cecilie Daae when she handed over the prize to the Fire chief of the Sogn Fire and Rescue.
The prize was awarded for the first time this year, and is to draw attention to the fact that everyone should practice and utilize all possibilities in Nødnett.
According to Nødnett, the prize winner should be a good example for other users of the TETRA communication system.
