Telia Company Joins TCCA to Advance Critical Communications Broadband Opportunities
Telia Company, the commercial telecommunications operator with operations across Europe and Asia, has announced its membership of TCCA, the global representative organisation for critical communications.
The critical communications market is beginning to open up to commercial operators. Currently, dedicated national narrowband critical communications networks are operated by government-controlled organisations. New critical broadband technologies are being developed based on open 4G/5G standards defined by 3GPP. These standards are essential to ensure the resilience, features and interoperability required by critical communications users. Once they are in place, commercial mobile network infrastructure can be leveraged to deliver mission critical services.
The advent of this critical broadband capability will provide significant new business opportunities for commercial mobile network operators (MNOs), whether they are looking to enter the critical communications market as sole provider, or partner with existing PMR critical communications operators wishing to complement existing narrowband services.
“For more than 160 years, Telia has connected Sweden with the latest technology. With the country’s largest fibre network and best mobile network, we are more than ready to develop the next level critical communication solutions for our customers,” said Patrik Olsson, Head of Special Network Security, Telia Sweden.
Telia was founded in 1853 and has operations in Azerbaijan, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Sweden, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
“TCCA has unrivalled expertise in the development of critical communications infrastructure and services based on user requirements. We are driving the development of critical broadband and can bring our members’ knowledge and expertise to benefit the mobile operators looking to support critical communications delivery. We are delighted to welcome Telia Company and look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship based on sharing and learning,” said Tony Gray, TCCA Chief Executive.
Supporting open and standardised mobile critical communications technologies and complementary applications, TCCA is catalysing competitive multivendor markets worldwide through open standards and harmonised spectrum. Collaborative working across the ecosystem is essential to develop and drive the most effective solutions for all who rely on critical communications.
