DSB Opts for Market Dialogue for a New Emergency Communications Network
DSB announced that it wants a market dialogue about a new emergency network in Norway.
In the new emergency network, the state must procure and manage a solution for mission-critical services for emergency and preparedness communications. According to DSB, a dialogue with the market will be ccrucial to the further development, therefore DSB has invited relevant market players to give their input on a possible solution for these services.
It has been decided to replace the current TETRA-based Nødnett network with a new solution for emergency and preparedness communication. A new emergency network will support the communication services that are critical for the users of the current Nødnett, and in addition be able to offer new forms of communication such as broadband technology that Mission Critical Services (MCX) makes possible. The MCX services will be based on the 3GPP specifications and will include both MCPTT, MCVideo and MCData.
The new emergency network will combine state ownership and service procurement from commercial mobile operators. Radio coverage and the core network will be provided by one or more commercial mobile operators, while the MCX system will be managed by the Directorate for Community Safety and Emergency Preparedness (DSB). It is further envisaged that DSB will be the service provider that delivers MCX services to the end users.
