Sepura takes off in India once again

Sepura announces a major contract in India with Cochin International Airport. This prestigious win was achieved in conjunction with VSpectra Communication, Sepura's New Delhi-based Indian partner.
 
The migration of Cochin International Airport’s communication system from analogue to the digital TETRA standard is part of the airport’s modernisation programme being undertaken by the local authorities.
 
VSpectra was responsible for the supply of all the TETRA components comprising the Rohde and Schwarz TETRA infrastructure and Sepura radio terminals - these will operate on the 380-430 MHz frequency band. The Indian branch of Siemens Information Systems was the turnkey contractor and integrator for the supply, installation and commissioning of the TETRA network.
 
Sepura hand-held radios were selected as their size and ease of use make them especially suitable for operatives within all departments of Cochin’s airport. In addition, the long working life of Sepura hand-held radios’ batteries is especially appropriate to Cochin airport’s busy 24/7 operations. In particular, Sepura radios' 12-way battery chargers generate operational benefits: charging a larger number of radios in one batch reduces the amount of time for which the radios are out of service.
 
Sepura’s powerful SRG gateways will allow extended TETRA coverage with their 10 Watts transmitter power. When operating in gateway mode, the SRG acts as a relay point for other hand-held and vehicle radios, stretching the trunked network into any black spots or to more distant users on the fringes of coverage within the airport.

In particular, TETRA technology provides clearer audio communication which will be beneficial during the monsoon rainy season. Kochhar continued: “The lightweight and compact Sepura terminals offer better voice quality than the old analogue terminals that they’ve replaced - so it was easy to convince Cochin’s airport authorities to adopt Sepura TETRA radios”.

Cochin International Airport commenced operations in 1999. It was developed according to a unique model which saw the close collaboration of airport users, the Government of Kerala and the airport service providers. It is spread over 1,300 acres and employs around 500 people. Over the years, Cochin has emerged as the commercial and industrial capital of Kerala and has become the second most important city on the west coast of India after Mumbai.
