Sepura delivers TETRA system to Toronto Transit Commission

Sepura announces that it has delivered a TETRA trunked radio system to Toronto Transit Commission ("TTC"). The system was successfully deployed in time to support the planned 2 day shutdown of one of TTC's main lines on the 10th and 11th of August 2013.
This is an initial deployment of the contract awarded to Sepura less than 2 months ago by TTC for a TETRA digital communications infrastructure to cover Toronto's subway lines and 8 above-ground sites; the first TETRA network to be deployed by a transport organization in Canada. This standalone TETRA system will also be used for coverage verification and will be in operation during the next planned shutdown of the line, due to take place in October - when TTC expects to complete major work on the subway system.
Steve Cragg, President for Sepura North America said: "One of Sepura's strengths lies in understanding and delivering on customer requirements from its target markets. We worked hard to meet this non-moveable shut-down period and successfully delivered, configured and deployed a standalone TETRA system within a fortnight of the confirmation that such a system was required.
In order to enable such a demanding turn-around we teamed up with TTC to understand their testing requirements and deliver a fully functioning and ready-to-go system. In addition, to ensure TTC were able to take full advantage of the new communication infrastructure, we provided local support throughout the shut-down testing period".
Cragg concluded: "We can confidently say that our timely and effective delivery of TTC's communication system contributed towards the smooth deployment of resources and successful tests by this major Canadian transport organization".
Toronto Transit Commission is the third largest public transport system in North America after New York and Mexico City. It's a multi-modal public transit agency which makes extensive use of radio communications for transit operations, maintenance and incident management. On a daily basis more than 1.6 million passengers are transported over its networks in the greater Toronto area.
