Grand Duchy of Luxembourg chooses TETRA
Since the end of January it's official: the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg will have a new national radio communications network named: RENITA
The Luxembourg emergency and security services will have their analogue radios replaced by TETRA terminals. With this decision Luxembourg chooses for the same technology as Belgium (ASTRID), Netherlands (C2000) and Germany (BDBOS).
The new network will exist of 75 base stations (antenna sites) in order to cover the whole country. Throughout the territory of the Grand Duchy, the number of radio terminals could reach to aproximately 9,500 units, which will be divided into 1200 talkgroups. The network will be used by 11,500 people who work for the Board of Customs, the management of bridges and roads, the emergency services (including the local fire and rescue), the army , the communication from the government the HCPN (Haut - commissariat à la protection or national crisis center ), the police and the intelligence service of the Grand Duchy.
In late January, the Luxembourg Government approved a bill to fund the network and she agreed with the conclusion of a contract with the group formed by ConnectCom and EPT (Entreprise des Postes et Télécommunications ) for the design, deployment and operation of the new digital radio communication network.
The RENITA project dates back to 2012 and will become a reality by the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2015.
