In the second phase of the implementation of the TETRA network in Montenegro, TETRA will be available for the border police and can be used on the major roads throughout the country.
By the end of the year, the installation of the digital TETRA radio system will be ready in Podgorica and on the coast. It is expected that the system will greatly enhance the work of patrols and to alow better coordination within the service.
Manager of the telecommunications and electronic technology department of the Police, Ranko Vojinovic, explained that the TETRA standard, developed at the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), was the best available digital "push and talk" solution as TETRA allows all participants to communicate in groups. This was one of the key reasons why Montenegro decided to replace analog systems to digital TETRA.
"The Ministry for Information Society and Telecommunications, in cooperation with state agencies and local governments, launched a national program to improve the telecommunications infrastructure through strategic cooperation with interested partners - project" Wireless Montenegro ".
TETRA will replace the existing analog system of for radio communications within the police force, and its use will contribute to more efficient work and co-ordination of police officers on the ground across the country, "said Vojinovic.
He said that the installation of TETRA system is not cheap but it is the trend in modern communications to replace analog systems with digital systems. It wil definitely eliminate many technological limitations that we experience today...
The plan is to introduce TETRA on the entire territory of Montenegro. The tendency is to build a professional radio network that will be used as a national communications system for multiple services such as the police, ambulance, fire department and rescue services.
