Allocation of frequencies allows Sistema de Transporte Colectivo to use TETRA in Mexico
Joel Ortega Cuevas, CEO of STC said: "We will develop one of the most important projects in telecommunications with the required TETRA technology and it will allow the Metro to modernize and refine communications.
El Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC) obtained the concession of 72 pairs of frequencies by the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), which will make it possible to use an effective radio system that meets the operational requirements, prevent accidents and cover emergency communications to benefit all of its 5.3 million users per day.
Joel Ortega Cuevas CEO of STC, said: "We will develop one of the most important projects in telecommunications with the required TETRA technology and it will allow the Metro to modernize and refine communications.
He explained that, because of the grant of the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, the STC will now be able to provide the same technology to organizations like the Red de Transporte de Pasajeros (RTP) Servicios de Transportes Eléctricos (STE) and the Metrobus, in order to coordinate its daily activities.
The STC is now also able to interact with the Suburban Railway and the Mexibus. The system will also interface with the capital's Secretaría de Seguridad Pública capitalina (SSPDF).
With the new TETRA network, STC will be more efficient in its operations as it will cover 100 percent of the train tracks, including underground tunnels.
It is now also possible for STC to communicate with the maintenance shops, halls, platforms and stations, while they may act immediately to any video surveillance monitoring system comprising five thousand 500 cameras.
International competitive bidding for the TETRA system was won by the companies comprising: THALES México, S.A. de C.V., THALES Communications & Security and Sociedad Ibérica de Construcciones Eléctricas S.A., under a contract of 40.1 million euros.
