The Public Transportation Authority of Uppland (UL) has selected Celab Communications AB as partner to implement TETRA critical communications technology.

UL is one of the biggest operators within public transportation in Sweden with 40 million trips per year. The organisation is a part of the regional government of the county of Uppsala, on the Swedish east coast. Daily operations of the 500 buses is managed by a work force of 1500 people, distributed across a number of subcontractors.

Today their communication is managed by two separate two-way radio systems, one for city transits and one for regional transportations. The current systems are however perceived as obsolete prompting UL to evaluate alternatives. Thanks to its reliability and highly developed coverage RAKEL proved to be the best choice. UL therefore carried out a public tender to find a suitable supplier for their RAKEL-solution. A procurement process that resulted in Celab Communications AB being awarded the contract.

The agreement includes equipping UL’s entire bus fleet with vehicle mounted TETRA terminals and related services. Support, support and maintenance is also included throughout the term of the contract.

“Naturally we are proud that UL has chosen us as their supplier. We are also convinced that they will feel confident with their choice, since our valuable experiences from SL and other public transportation organisations surely will benefit UL during the contract term.”
