Being both a Tetra radio and a smartphone, the mission-critical Tactilon Dabat combines Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) functionalities and broadband features.

Airbus Defence and Space will introduce the Tactilon Dabat in Germany, a full Tetra radio built into a smartphone offering all the functionalities of both a state-of-the-art Tetra radio and a smartphone. With its ruggedised design, Tactilon Dabat withstands the harshest conditions and allows instant communication with a team thanks to the push-to-talk and touch-to-message options. Android features and the large 4.7-inch touchscreen allow police officers and firefighters to use special public safety apps.

“Our customers value Tetra for its voice and message communication quality, but they also want to use applications and share multimedia information. The Dabat will allow them to have everything in a single terminal,” said Olivier Koczan, Head of Secure Land Communications at Airbus Defence and Space.

Users benefit from the Dabat’s smartphone features in various ways: They can take snapshots of critical moments with a camera, switch on live-stream videos and exchange data safely. The touchscreen can also be handled with gloves. Moreover, since the Dabat works as a platform for applications, Airbus Defence and Space has launched a new application developer programme, called SmarTWISP, to create an application ecosystem addressing the daily needs of PMR users.

The Dabat is interoperable and can work on standard Tetra networks on the 380 – 430 MHz frequency band. Its audio processing is designed for professional operation and enables communication with a voice-optimised, waterproof microphone and speaker. The Tactilon Dabat is dust and waterproof with Ingress Protection ratings IP65 and IP67. It also has a long-lasting and rechargeable battery that ensures connectivity during long incidents. All information is encrypted and protected.

Along with new applications, the Tactilon Dabat will be displayed at the Airbus Defence and Space stand during the PMR Expo 2016 in Cologne from 22 to 24 November.
