Dutch AIVD Finds Chinese Influence on 5G Network and C2000 TETRA Network Undesirable
According to the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD), it is clear that Chinese companies undermine Dutch interests.
If it is up to the AIVD, there are consequenses for the construction of a 5G network with Huawei technology and the replacement of the C2000 TETRA network, serving public safety communications in The Netherlands. That is what the secret service writes in its annual report.
During the presentation of the annual report yesterday, Dick Schoof Director General of the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) at the Ministry of the Interior said:
"When it comes to our vital infrastructure or 5G, you don't want to buy hardware and software from countries that conduct an offensive cyber program aimed at Dutch national security".
Schoof also said that he does not want to speak out of a 'curse' about certain companies, but he does think that no Chinese equipment should be used in the most vital places in such important network.
The AIVD provides insight to the parties involved, such as ministries, about the relationships between such companies and the government, so that they can weigh the risks. According to civil servants of the security service: “It is important to look at the possibilities, intentions, and interests of the states involved and the national legislation. It is also important that the Dutch user ensures that he always has control over his own data."
