Federal Engineering Awarded Contract from the Town of Winthrop for Radio Communications Upgrade
The Town of Winthrop, Maine has awarded a contract to Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to provide professional consulting services to assist in a complete upgrade of the Town’s public safety radio system infrastructure.
Mr. William Sullivan, Dispatch Supervisor and IT Lead for the Winthrop Police Department, provided details:
“The primary goal of the upgrade is to bring the Town’s radio communications and its dispatch center up to modern standards. We chose Federal Engineering to examine and evaluate the current communications system, provide a report on the findings, and make recommendations for a replacement radio system. The anticipated solution will mitigate poor radio coverage areas, increase channel availability, and be interoperable with the public safety agencies in surrounding towns during emergencies. The new system should also provide alerts for fire/EMS stations and personnel on and off duty and provide electronic signage displays for public information notices.”
“We are excited to partner with the Town of Winthrop and serving as their trusted advisor in conducting a thorough needs assessment and providing conceptual design recommendations to upgrade its communication systems,” stated Mr. Travis LePage, Director at Federal Engineering. “FE has completed hundreds of projects for rural and suburban jurisdictions with populations affected by seasonal tourism. Because of this, FE has developed unique methodologies in our Suburban and Rural Radio Practice that are custom tailored to this environment, enabling cost-effective solutions to be achieved with limited budgets. The Town of Winthrop will benefit from FE’s experiences gained in projects across North America.”
Mr. LePage continued: “FE’s scope of work will include:
- Radio System Analysis and Design
- Technical Specifications and RFP
- Procurement Support and Vendor Evaluation
- Contract Negotiations
- Implementation Oversight
