Indonesian Natural Gas Plant Deploys Team Simoco TETRA Network
Designed to cover an area of about 220 square kilometers from a single transmission site with four carriers
Team Simoco completed the supply of a TETRA system for the Badak liquid natural gas (LNG) plant in Indonesia.
Designed to cover an area of about 220 square kilometers from a single transmission site with four carriers, the system will support more than 500 radio users equipped with Intrinsically Safe (IS) hand portables. The system has fully redundant switching for maximum reliability and an analog gateway to provide digital voice and data communications throughout the plant, as well as connectivity to legacy analog networks.
Operated by Indonesian company PT Badak NGL, the Badak LNG plant is in Bontang, East Kalimantan with capacity to process more than 22 million tons a year, supplied to countries including Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Badak LNG is one of the largest LNG plants in the world, having produced more than 415 million tons of gas to date. Since the discovery of Badak Field’s huge natural gas reserve in 1972, the plant has continued to expand, with it now operating a total of eight trains.
“This is our first TETRA system contract in Indonesia’s oil and gas sector, marking a very important step for us as a company,” said Ian Carr, Team Simoco’s chief executive. “We view this as a beachhead contract that will enable us to clearly demonstrate our capability to local industries, and through our partnership with PT Alssa, we are well positioned to expand our influence in the region’s TETRA markets.”
