Airwave achieves new levels of customer service

According to Martin Benke, UK Network Services Director, Airwave: “Throughout the planning process and during the actual event, we worked closely with the Metropolitan Police, City of London Police, British Transport Police and London Ambulance Service, to ensure that the network performed with no disruptions.”
During the two-day event that covers an area of two and a half square miles (647.5 ha), approximately 6,500 police officers were on duty, with an additional 200 Airwave radios allocated to the ambulance service.
“At 5pm on the second day of the festivities, the sites covering the Carnival area had 4,698 terminals connected. Later the same night at around 9pm the figure jumped to 4,966,” adds Martin.
The event utilised the network designed to increase capacity ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including the latest generation base station equipment and the and additional control channels.
