TELTRONIC receives prestigious global award for Best TETRA Transport solution
The “Best Use of TETRA for Transport” was the most hotly contested category at the Awards, comprising 7 entries from metros and railways from around the world.
The International TETRA Awards, organised by TETRA Today in association with the TCCA (TETRA + Critical Communications Association), took place at the London Transport Museum on March 21. These annual Awards are widely anticipated by the industry as recognizing excellence and outstanding achievements by its members. A select panel of judges, chosen from around the world for their vast knowledge and experience in the field of radio communications, adjudicate on the best TETRA solutions across a number of categories.
The “Best Use of TETRA for Transport” was the most hotly contested category at the Awards, comprising 7 entries from metros and railways from around the world. It was also therefore appropriate that the Awards Ceremony was held this year at the London Transport Museum. The judges recognized TELTRONIC’s implementation of the first ever TETRA network to support a rail signalling solution for Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) - Kazakhstan’s national railways company - as the outstanding achievement in this sector over the past year.
TELTRONIC’s Keith Ammons was on hand to receive this prestigious award from the Chairman of the TCCA Transport Group, Robin Davis and Editor of TETRA Today, Richard Lambley.
KTZ is a public organization responsible for the operation of the main railway network, both passenger and cargo transportation, throughout Kazakhstan. It installed the first ever TETRA network to support a rail signaling solution based on the European Traffic Control System (ETCS). This solution has been named Radio-based Train Control (RBTC) in Kazakhstan. The TELTRONIC TETRA communications system meets all requirements for ETCS rail signaling system communications and is more efficient and cost effective than the routinely deployed GSM-R technology. TETRA also operates at lower frequencies, improving coverage and reducing equipment costs. Call set-up times are also much faster over TETRA.
“This has been a real team effort by a large number of engineers and staff working tirelessly to offer a unique solution to the customer which opens up new horizons for TETRA. We are proud and honoured to receive this award and look forward to maintaining our high standards in order to compete in further categories in the future,” commented Keith Ammons following the Awards Ceremony.
