Motorola Solutions receives TETRA certification from FCC in the United States
The company received an official FCC certification for its TETRA Dimetra base station and will now compete against Powertrunk on TETRA for non public safety end users the US.
Radioresourcemag today announced that Motorola Solutions released a statement following questions from the magazine about its plans for TETRA in the United States.
Motorola Solutions stated that the company is pleased to have gained FCC certification, in the 854 – 869 MHz frequency range, for their Dimetra TETRA base station. Now the company offers a complete range or digital PMR communications technologies such as TETRA, DMR and P25 to non US Public Safety end users. In this way the company will be able to pick and choose the right critical communications technology for every customer.
Currently New York City Transit initiated an RFP for a new 700/800 MHz digital radio system for busses (including hand portable and radios), as well as infrastructure, consoles, Computer Aided Dispatch solutions and other equipment, it is expected that Motorola Solutions might bid with a TETRA solution.
PowerTrunk CEO Jose Martin welcomes the Motorola Solutions to the US TETRA market. This company was the first company to receive FCC type approval for TETRA equipment back in 2009. Meanwhile Powertrunk used its advantage of selling TETRA in North America. The company delivered a TETRA system to BC Hydro, the third largest electrical utility in Canada, a system to NJ TRANSIT, were Powertrunk delivered the radio base stations, core infrastructure, and over 4,000 TETRA subscriber radios to support on-board Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment for buses. Powetrunk also sold TETRA to the Academy Bus company in New York City and delivered TETRA to Ontario Power Generation for the Fukushima Telecommunication Enhancement Project.
