Motorola Solutions Ensures Reliable and Secure Operation of Lithuanian Public Safety Network
Lithuania’s Nationwide TETRA system enables State Border Guard Services, police, fire and rescue departments, ambulances, VIP Protection Department and other public security services to communicate at any time.
Motorola Solutions and the Information Technology and Communications Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania are under contract to ensure efficient and reliable mission-critical radio communications for Lithuania’s public safety authorities. The contract includes a 24/7 technical help desk, incident and services management as well as infrastructure components repair and software support.
The project is co-financed by the EU Structural Funds and is compliant with the Schengen Area regulations for guarding external borders of the EU and controlling transit.
“Securing our public safety and state borders relies on real-time communications to first responders. It would be difficult to imagine daily operations of these institutions without efficient radio communication, since it is critical when dealing with emergency situations, natural disasters or mass incidents,” said Mt. Arturas Kavolis, deputy director of the IT and Communications department of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania. “We therefore have to ensure that our public safety organisations are equipped with reliable and secure communications solutions, which are available at any time.”
“This service agreement ensures that TETRA communications operate without interruptions while providing a high-quality, secure and accessible system to all users,” said Michael Kaae, MSSSI vice president, Government Sales Nordics & Baltics at Motorola Solutions. “Our services enable first responders to stay connected when seconds count, and to focus on their mission to make cities and communities safer.”
Within the framework of the service contract, Motorola Solutions will ensure that the software and hardware components of the Lithuanian public safety network are kept up-to date. This will enable the TETRA communications system to provide sufficient capacity and reliability – from main controllers and base stations to command and control centres. Moreover, public safety users will receive full access to state-of-the-art mission-critical communications technologies on the ground via terrestrial radio communication as well as in the Lithuanian sea area and air space.
