Finnish MNO's Test Priority on 4G with Police, Erillisverkot and Nokia
VIRVE together with Nokia, Ericsson and the three major national MNOs have performed the 1st round of testing of authority prioritisation in 4G networks to study the availability of broadband authority data services under congestion situations.
Finnish operator Elisa communicated yesterday that it has carried out tests in December with State Security Networks Group (Erillisverkot), the Helsinki Police and Nokia of prioritisation of critical traffic on a commercial 4G network. Testing is being carried out because Virve, the national public safety network for the emergency services, is heading to to next-generation services.
Antii Kaupinnen, development manager at Erillisverkot: "Work on the new Virve system is under way, but the current Tetra-based network will continue to operator for a long time yet."
Sami Komulainen, Elisa's mobile network manager: "The current tests demonstrate the smooth functioning of public services on the Elisa grid."
Pekka Sundstrom, customer relationship manager at Nokia: "Transferring government traffic to the 4G network in the future would bring benefits such as broad coverage and fast data transfer rates, including for video calls."
The next round of testing will be with the end-user organisations.
