Rwanda and Motorola Solutions Sign Partnership Agreement on Developing Tech Hub

The Government of Rwanda has entered into a five-year partnership with Motorola Solutions to build local ICT capacity as the country bids to become a continental ICT hub.

 

According to The New Times, Rwanda’s largest private media organization, under the agreement, Motorola Solutions will establish a service center, a training center, a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) center and an IoT (Internet of Things) center in Rwanda.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Minister for ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire, said that by signing this agreement, Rwanda is looking at building capacities and the entire ICT eco-system with unique value-adding solutions.

Rwanda Development Board Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Hategeka, noted: “There is a business case for the Government to work with partners in the private sector such as Motorola Solutions in investing in enhancing skills of Rwandans and technology. Establishing these service, training, SCADA and Internet of Things centers in addition to moving Motorola Solutions’ regional headquarters here will further position Rwanda as an ICT hub for the continent.”

General Manager, Motorola Solutions Rwanda & Region Manager East Africa, Yuval Hanan, said: “We chose Rwanda because it is a leader in ICT within the region and believe that young Rwandan engineers and ICT professionals have a lot to offer globally. We are excited to invest in improving the technical expertise in Rwanda and exporting it.”
