Austria helps Slovenia with emergency power generators and TETRA communications infrastructure
Last week, after a day-long ice storm that has damaged 25 percent of the electricity network in Slovenia, the Slovenian government sought within the framework of the EU mechanism to international assistance.
Austria helps with 25 emergency power generators and communications infrastructure. Even Germany, the Czech Republic, Romania and Poland will assist Slovenia with power generators. The disaster operation is expected to last 14 days.
The day long ice storm cut in Slovenia some 200,000 people (ten percent of the population) from the power supply.
Due to the damaged infrastructure throughout the area, only limited communication is currently possible. The Ministry of Interior has complied with the request of the Regional Early Warning Centre northeast to support communication and has agreed to provide support with a mobile TETRA base station and the necessary personnel for operation. The cost of the use of the TETRON digital radio system are covered by the Ministry of Interior.
