Rohill big winner TETRA Awards
Rohill, specialist in mission-critical radio networks, is the big winner of the TETRA Awards. Last Friday the Dutch company has received two Awards and one 'highly commended' recognition from the independent jury.
The annual International TETRA Awards events are organized by the TETRA Today magazine and supported by the TETRA + Critical Communications Association. The 2014 Awards were presented during a ceremony held in the prestigious Landmark Hotel in London. Of the seven categories Rohill won the 'Best integration of future broadband with TETRA' and 'Green TETRA Award'. Additionally Rohill was also celebrated with an honorable mention in the category 'Best Use of TETRA for transportation'.
Future proof
In the category 'Best integration of future broadband with TETRA', Rohill has won the award for the 'SETAR critical voice and data for LTE' pilot project, which integrates the Rohill TetraNode network with the LTE network that are both operated by SETAR on the island of Aruba.
The jury has highlighted that "One of the prime innovations of the Critical Voice and Data Protocol (CVDP) is the application of the Rohill IPR for fast push-to-talk operation. This patented technology enables fast and robust operation of push-to-talk in a heterogeneous IP-network environment, including 3G, LTE and satellite backhaul links."
Sustainable
The 'Green TETRA Award' is destined for the 'greenest' TETRA solution. After the award received in 2012 for 'Power Saving Innovations', the jury has awarded Rohill for the 2nd time in this category, now with the entry 'Energy efficient TETRA'. As confirmed in the TETRA Awards report, the TetraNode solution not only leads to a reduction of CO2 emissions, but also results in signification reduction of operating costs.
Innovative
Finally Rohill also received a so-called 'highly commended' recognition by the judges for the 'TETRA for MetrôRio'-project within the category 'Best Use of TETRA for transportation'. An important innovation is the migration of TETRA base stations to the IEEE 1588 standard for time synchronization, which allows for faster and more reliable handovers in underground Metro areas, where GPS synchronization is not feasible.
