At the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am / Parapan Am Games, 7,600 top athletes from the Americas and Caribbean will compete at more than 30 venues located in 16 municipalities across southern Ontario.

Preparations of the network that will support communications for the Pan Am & Parapan Am Games are currently in full swing.

As like any other large scale sports event, secure and reliable communications are most important. However, before such a large scale event like the Pan Am & Parapan Am Games takes place, a lot of preparations needs to be done.

Already in October 2014, one of the first site surveys at the famous CN tower (the world's tallest building and free standing structure), and with 1815 feet the tallest site, was started and already on the 6th November about 95% of the radio surveys were completed.

On the 10th February the fleet-mapping was done. However at that time, it was still a long way to go before the opening of the games in June 2015.

John Dundas, Spectrum Manager for the Pan Am & Parapan Am Games commented on Twitter: "Spectrum management is hard work but so important for any network design & capacity."

Already on the 11 April, the first batch of 150 radios, of the total of 6500, were delivered and a total number of 4000 TETRA radios will be used during the games. During the entire event, TETRA, DMR as well as some analogue radios will simultaneously be used.

The Pan American Games are the world’s third largest international multi-sport Games; they are only surpassed in size and scope by the Olympic Summer Games and the Asian Games.
