Simoco supports cancer research

Mobile radio specialist Simoco was a proud supporter of this year’s Male Bag Ride Event by providing a rental donation of convoy communication equipment. The event has been arranged to help raise much-needed funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).
Organised by a group of friends to support the PCFA, the 2013 Male Bag Ride saw a group of 26 participants, including AFL legend David Parkin, complete the 4400 km journey from Perth to Melbourne over a period of 10 days. Starting out on 3 April, each member of the team rode an ex-postie Honda 110 cc motorbike, as ridden by postmen across Australia.
To support the event, Simoco donated the use of 31 radios, including 27 UHF portables for each of the riders and 4 UHF mobiles for the support vehicles. The system enabled riders to communicate with one another throughout the entire journey, as it was crucial that participants were made aware of potential hazards while riding.
Neville Holland, one of the riders in the event, said: “Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australian men, with over 20,000 Australian men diagnosed each year. PCFA relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations such as Simoco to carry out their essential work in promoting and funding world-leading, innovative research into the disease. We’re thrilled with Simoco’s generous rental donation of the convoy communication equipment needed to help myself and the rest of the team complete the 2013 Male Bag Ride.”
