Thales Tests LTE PMR Solution With French Utility
Thales said that it successfully tested its NEXIUM Wireless broadband Long Term Evolution (LTE) professional mobile radio (PMR) solution under operational conditions with French electric utility EDF.
A range of EDF users, including maintenance, security, safety and site surveillance staff, evaluated the applications deployed by Thales. The numerous operational users who took part in the field trial, with several types of terminals including the hardened TeSquad terminal, had a chance to experience the gains in efficiency and security offered by the solution's on-the-move multimedia capabilities. For example, through group call, geolocated data collection and real-time photo and video transfer were featured.
EDF underlined its interest in LTE technology for its strong radio coverage inside industrial buildings, where propagation conditions can be particularly challenging, as well as outside the site. This solution also allows services currently provided by different radio communications systems to be integrated within a single infrastructure.
The success of the trials is a further endorsement of Thales’s 4G/LTE secured communications solutions and the company’s ability to guarantee the security, availability and resilience of mission-critical applications for civilian users, a Thales statement said.
