The new network will include an Automatic Vehicle Location function and has the potential to be integrated with planned airport security systems.

China Harbour & Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) of Sri Lanka has chosen Cassidian, the Defence & Security division of EADS, to equip Hambantota International Airport with a secure TETRA radio communication network. Hambantota International Airport will be inaugurated in September 2012 as the second International Airport in Sri Lanka.

The installation, commissioning and activation of the system, called Claricor, will be performed by the Sri Lanka-based company Queens Radio Marine Electronics (Pte), Cassidian’s value-added reseller (VAR) in Sri Lanka, in co-operation with the Cassidian team based in India.

“We are proud to have been chosen by China Harbour & Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) and the Airport Authority of Sri Lanka, and welcome their decision to award this new mission-critical TETRA radio communication system to Cassidian,” said Ehud Weizman, Head of Sales & Marketing for Public Safety, Indian Subcontinent. “This award is a sign of our customers’ confidence in our technology. It is our second TETRA system in the country. The first system of this type is in the final stage of implementation and about to start operations at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo.”

The new network will include an Automatic Vehicle Location function and has the potential to be integrated with planned airport security systems. Tailored to customers’ specific requirements, Claricor is Cassidian’s solution for small to medium-sized networks. Designed to meet the needs of airports and for use in the industry and transport sectors, Claricor offers many of the advanced functions of larger networks including secure voice and data services, individual calls, group calls and dispatcher functionalities. In addition, Claricor can easily expand from covering a small group of users served by a single site to becoming a fully-fledged network addressing the needs of several thousand subscribers.
