Thales to supply train control and communications systems for Hyderabad Metro
The initial tender notice for the Supply of Tetra Radio System to Hyderabad Metro Rail, INDIA was launched just over one year ago, on the 30th November and included the TEDS feature
Thales India has signed an agreement with Indian engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubro to provide communications based train control (CBTC) and integrated communications and supervision (ICS) systems for the Hyderabad Metro rail project.
The CBTC advanced signalling and ICS systems will be installed on the Hyderabad Metro rail lines 1, 2 and 3, which covers 72km of rail and includes 66 stations. The Thales advanced signalling solution, SelTrac CBTC, has been chosen for the L&T Hyderabad Metro rail project.
Thales will design, build, deliver and manage the installation of the SelTrac communications-based train control solution. Its success has already been proven globally, as more than 30 of the world's largest city metro systems use Thales SelTrac CBTC, transporting 3 billion passengers each year.
The integrated communications and supervision systems supplied will build on the success of previous supervision projects in India in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Jaipur.
Thales will deliver its comprehensive ICS package, composed by data transmission, public address, passenger information display, fault reporting facilities, office automation and information technology, CCTV, access control and intrusion detection, master clock, telephony, voice recording and TETRA radio systems.

The greenfield project will be constructed in six stages and will cover three key corridors: Miyapur to LB Nagar; Jubilee Bus Stand to Falaknuma; and Nagole to Shilparaman. Under the integrated coordination of a central control operations facility, trains will operate automatically, with an attendant on board.

The TETRA system for the Hyderabad has the following features included:
- Fully IP based Digital TETRA Radio system.
- Voice and data communications.
- Provision to support TETRA 2 TEDS in future.
- Fully redundant two nos. MSCs and 10 nos. base stations each with 2 base radios
- 95% coverage for the tracks, inside stations, OCC/DCC, depot locations, sub-stations
