Analysys Mason Opens South African Office

Analysys Mason opened an office in Johannesburg, South Africa. The move will extend the company’s reach in Africa and recognized the region's increasing importance in the global telecoms and technology landscape.

“Gross domestic product (GDP) growth above 5 percent in most countries and the opportunity to leapfrog technology generations means that these countries are more attractive to firms … from outsourcing to enterprise IT to fixed and mobile broadband,” said Analysys Mason’s Johannesburg Office Manager Robert Schumann. “However, the maturing of some markets means that operators’ strategy is no longer about expansion at all costs. Key issues for operators will be rationalizing capital expenditures through infrastructure sharing and use of wholesale carrier services, which creates opportunities for new businesses, and rationalizing operating expenses through smart management.”

David Eurin, partner and head of African operations at Analysys Mason, said national broadband planning is a priority for African governments, operators and consumers.

A team of consultants, including local recruits and experienced staff from other offices, will man the new office. The launch comes two years after Analysys Mason initiated a Middle East and Africa research program. The new team will contribute to this program, as well as leverage the insight of Analysys Mason’s research team in their work with African clients.
